With more than 50 million albums and singles sold worldwide, Michael Bolton is one of pop music's premier male vocalists. While the boomer heartthrob's soulful rasp may be more wine cooler than fine wine, Bolton nevertheless just gets better with time. On Only a Woman like You, his first disc in four years and his debut for teen pop staple Jive Records, he returns to the pop world after a foray into opera with 1998's My Secret Passion. This time around, he updates his blue-eyed soul with a fresh, youthful-sounding collection of sultry mid-tempo tracks and swoon-worthy ballads. Bolton, who wrote or co-wrote most of the disc's 11 tracks, even steps his lyrics up a seductive notch. For instance, on the Latin-tinged "Dance with Me," he muses about a temptress "with the face of an angel so filled with danger," and on the imploring "I Wanna Hear You Say It," Bolton croons, "Your eyes have said to me, walk to the edge with me."
