Morgan Geer's second LP under the Drunken Prayer flag has a smart-assed cinematic depth that any musicologist will love, yet is still fresh enough to hum. The gut-bucket guitars and keys are dense, bluesy and psychedelic; the horn arrangements are as loose and buoyant as a New Orleans Jazz funeral. Best of all, the lyrics are as sweet as they are damning.
