Since she burst onto the hip-hop scene sportin' braids and baggy jeans and boasting a vocabulary that would make a sailor blush, Da Brat has flaunted just enough round-the-way-girl charisma and MC aptitude to win props in the male-dominated rap world. The crossover-ready rap grooves and hard-edged rhymes of her 1994 album FUNKDAFIED made Da Brat the first solo female rapper to sell platinum. But with UNRESTRICTED, Da Brat has left the cutesy, gangsta-boo image behind. This time around, a lipstick-wearing, cleavage-flaunting Brat revels in her blossoming sex appeal -- a change foreshadowed by the disc's intro, which features raunch-queen Millie Jackson. Da Brat has never been modest about her sexual appetite, and on the hit singles "That's What I'm Looking For" and "What'chu Like" (which features Tyrese), she's looking for a stamina-daddy to call her own. While Da Brat flips the bird to jealous women on "F**k You," she spends the bulk of the album biggin' up her Chi-town roots, her female allies, and her affection for blunt smoke over R&B melodies, supplied by Jermaine Dupri. What the production lacks in heft, however, Da Brat compensates for with her double-time Midwestern flow and her pretty thug whip appeal.
