One of contemporary gospel's most vivacious performers, Beverly Crawford really shines on this live collection, which was recorded at Atlanta's Jackson Memorial Baptist Church. Opening with the sizzling "Higher in the Lord," Crawford keeps up the pace in what is an overwhelmingly warm and upbeat collection that joyfully praises the Lord throughout. Among the friends joining Crawford here are Bobby Jones on the energetic "How I Got Over" and Melvin Williams on one of the collection's few ballads, "I'm Willing to Wait." Crawford's brand of gospel is rooted in tradition, and her lush backing choir keeps even more contemporary compositions like "I'm Willing to Wait" firmly rooted in a traditional gospel sound. Crawford delivers some truly fine performances here, and there's no doubt that she's captured the energy of that evening for posterity.
