The soundtrack to match the urban tale features a diverse array of talent, from R&B darling Mya on the sassy "Free" to hardcore rappers Cuban Link and Fat Joe, who rhyme over angst-ridden strings on "Why Me." Other gritty rap tracks come courtesy of Major Figgas, Scarface, and Trick Daddy, while on the lighter side, Nelly shines on the characteristically catchy "Icey," featuring his squad, the St. Lunatics. The real gem of the soundtrack, however, is the Roots' funk-anchored "Work," featuring newcomer Alechia James, whose raspy, blues-inflected vocals sound like a cross between Mavis Staples and Randy Crawford.
